Words and photographs

Spare

One word is said or read and the memories come back, faded ones that are welcome in the remembering.  ‘Spare’ brings back times of my youth.  Pictures form of living in the country that was empty of the urban landscape, a land that my dad was partial to. Oh how he loved those open spaces, prompting a move for the family to Eastern Oregon.

Life was good. Our days may have been meager by many standards yet there was an appealing simplicity to it.

My ears still hear the sound of Roy Rogers on the record player with the lines of ‘give me land lots of land under the starry skies’.

We managed to do with out and we did it well.  My mom was frugal. She knew how to make a pot of stew stretch to feed eight mouths.  There may have been the morning orange juice diluted with water and the milk jug grown in quantity with the addition of powdered milk, yet they were happy days!

I find it interesting that here I sit in the comfort of my home surrounded by so much, sharing this post on a computer that back in my growing up years was a room sized blinking box seen only on TV sci-fi shows.  Here I add photographs to go with my ‘blog’ that were taken with a cell phone. Oh my!

We used to have a party line!

Times have definitely changed on the outside.  But hopefully not on the inside.

I pray that I will never forget the good moments and that they continue to propel me to live that same life my parents so generously gave.

Thank you Katie! I really do appreciate your words. Photography is a wonderful medium to work in. Do you know what camera you are going to get? Classes are a great way to learn with the immediate feedback they offer. There are so many good tutorials online now that give a good start in learning on your own. Best advice is go out and shoot! One learns a lot just by practicing. Also find your favourite photographers and really study what they are doing and whtpy you like their work. Wish you all the best.
